Ali Larter vs. Amy Smart
Battle of the Bubblegum Blondes

Back in 1996, when a then-unknown Ali Larter posed as "Allegra Coleman" -- a non-existent blonde ingenue -- for a hoax article in Esquire, it seemed predestined that she herself would one day rise, if not to stardom, than at least to a Coleman-esque flavor-of-the-month-dom. What wasn't predestined, or even particularly foreseeable, was the fact that "Allegra Coleman" would literally rise from the pages of Esquire, assume a flesh-and-blood form, and battle Larter tooth-and-nail for her hard-won spot in the celebrity firmament.

Oh, wait. That's not Allegra Coleman wrestling with Ali Larter. It's Amy Smart.

Of course, Smart might as well be Coleman, just as Larter might as well be Smart, and Smart might as well be Larter. If there are any discernible differences between the blonde, spunky, and eyecandyish Larter and the ditto, ditto, and ditto Smart, we've yet to discern them. Ali and Amy have, between them, managed to appear in pretty much every teen movie of note over the past few years -- yet we defy you to tell us which one starred in which. Here's a pop quiz: Starship Troopers? Drive Me Crazy? Final Destination? Road Trip? Varsity Blues? Answers: Amy. Ali. Ali. Amy. All of the above.

Of course, the supply of teen movies is already starting to mirror the demand (which is to say, slow down to a trickle), and there likely won't be enough scraps for both Smart and Larter to survive. So which one will prevail? Judge for yourself: you can soon enjoy Larter in Young Guns 3: American Outlaws, while Smart will be appearing in Cannonball Run 4: Rat Race. Or vice versa.

If they really want to ensure their continued relevance, we suggest that they ditch their respective movie careers and team up for an hour-long cop drama on the WB, entitled Larter & Smart. "One's Smart, and one's smarter. One's lart, and one's Larter. Together, they're Larter & Smart, cleaning up the streets, Thursdays at 8."

Advantage: Um, the first one.
