Amber Tamblyn vs. Caroline Dhavernas
Battle of the Tawny-Haired Girls Who Hear Voices

Though we obviously can't speak from experience, we imagine there are very few things that can sour your excitement when you hear you've been cast as the lead in a brand-new show. One such thing might be the words, "And playing your husband -- Joey Slotnick!" Or the words, "And we've just hired the head writer from Weber." Or, perhaps, the realization that you've been cast in a role on a show that is exactly like another show that's already on the air. On the same night. An hour before your show comes on.

Such is the dilemma facing newcomer Caroline Dhavernas. Her new show Wonderfalls is, by all accounts, quite good ["it's not" -- Wing Chun], and has already secured a place for itself as one of the top two girl-hears-voices- telling-her-what-to-do shows on TV today.

Unfortunately, the other such show, Joan of Arcadia, airs at 8 o'clock Friday nights -- exactly one hour before Wonderfalls. That show is also, by many accounts, quite good despite having, hands-down, the worst title of any show on TV. (And if you think we are staying home Friday nights in order to research the subtle differences between these two girl-hears-voices shows, you are sadly mistaken. We're staying home Friday nights for entirely different reasons that may or may not involve house-arrest proximity anklets.)

These two young ladies, Tamblyn and Dhavernas, are no doubt each charming in her own, unique, tawny-haired, hearing-voices way. We just worry for young Ms. Dhavernas, who may soon find herself having the following conversation at the Teen Choice Awards or some such industry event:

Dhavernas: I'm the star of Wonderfalls.
Bystander: Whaa?
Dhavernas: The show about the girl who hears voices.
Bystander: Whaa?
Dhavernas: The one on Friday nights.
Bystander: Whaa?
Dhavernas: Not the one in which the girl hears God.
Bystander: Whaa?
Dhavernas: The one in which the girl hears souvenirs. Talking. To her.

At which point, Sarah Michelle Gellar will wander up and lobby for a cameo in an upcoming episode, before being removed by Security.

Advantage: Amber Tamblyn, because she was there first.
