A Little of This and That - Blue Moons Blue Moon

Network Sitcom Pilot Line-Up: 2003-04

As Candice Bergen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kyra Sedgwick, and (soon) Geena Davis could tell you, producing your own sitcom vehicle is a time-honoured method of shoring up a declining film career. With that in mind, Fametracker has travelled into the future and returned with a list of network sitcoms starring ladies (including one non-movie star who really should have known better) whose stars, by then, will have fallen.

P.S. I Love You, starring Halle Berry, Tuesdays at 8 on NBC

What happens when the husband of a former Miss Cincinnati absconds with all her endorsement-money savings and leaves her penniless? Why, she takes the Civil Service exam and becomes a postal employee, of course! Halle Berry stars as Patricia Stanwyck, the ex-beauty queen learning to stand on her own two (gorgeous!) feet for the first time in her life. Though she starts out acting pretty frosty toward her co-workers at the sorting plant, she soon warms to Tony (Andy Dick) Brianne (Charisma Carpenter), Cindy (Kim Fields), and supervisor Jeff (Keenen Ivory Wayans), who's nursing a secret crush on her! Will Patricia return Jeff's affection? Will she ever find postal work more fulfilling than the pageant circuit? Or will she take back her (seemingly!) apologetic ex, Sam (recurring special guest star Wesley Snipes)? Signed, sealed, delivered, it's all yours -- on NBC!

La Vida Loca, starring Salma Hayek, Thursdays at 9:30 on FOX

Grappling with a mental illness is a lot more pleasant if the person on the other end of the couch is a sexy Latina psychiatrist! Just ask the patients of Dr. Esmeralda Rodriguez (Salma Hayek), who get both the benefit of her Johns Hopkins-trained psychiatric expertise, and a nice close look at her hot bazooms! You won't want to miss a single "woo!"-packed installment of La Vida Loca, as an endless supply of hilarious patients parades through her office -- each patient more comically neurotic than the last! Of course Dr. Rodriguez saves her closest attention and most trenchant analysis for one special patient: Leo (Jon Tenney). Despite his pyromania and borderline personality disorder, he's still the most fascinating man she's ever known, and the only one who can make her (and you!) laugh her skivvies right off. However, it's unethical for her to date a patient. Will she throw away her career for love of a man who's criminally insane? Whoops! Our time here is up. See you next week!

The Old Navy Comedy Hour, starring Lisa Ling, Sundays at 8 on the WB

Just when you thought the variety show was dead, Old Navy's undertaken heroic measures to bring it back to life! If you liked Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie, and (briefly) those unstoppable Brady kids, you'll love the Old Navy comedy hour. Ex-journalist Lisa Ling is your hostess as all your favourites from the long-running Old Navy ad campaign -- Tia and Tamara Mowry, Craig Kilborn, Jerry Hall, Morgan Fairchild, Isabel Sanford, Jason Alexander, Laura Leighton, Sherman Hemsley, Carrie Donovan, and, of course, Magic the dog -- perform gut-busting comedy skits with special guest stars like Cindy Williams and David Hyde Pierce. Maybe Lisa Ling's old boss, Barbara Walters, will stop by to do a special rendition of the Macarena! Best of all, you won't be plagued by those pesky commercial breaks; the show's sponsor, Old Navy, ensures that each performer is clad head to toe in Old Navy gear at all times, obviating the need for those inefficient half-minute affairs. Don't be the last one on your block to know the difference between a tech vest and a polar vest: Tune in to The Old Navy Comedy Hour, starring former network journalist -- and current mistress of mirth! -- Lisa Ling.

Hang in There! starring Demi Moore, Mondays at 8 on CBS

Four kids under the age of ten can be a handful -- particularly for a single mom! Fortunately, Jennifer Harrison is no stranger to juggling: She's a circus acrobat, and she's incorporated her four cherubic and precocious children into her act. Of course, they're all surrounded by some pretty unusual characters under the big top, including Sadie the Bearded Lady (Kathy Baker), lion tamer Feliz (John Leguizamo), crew chef Stewart (Roscoe Lee Browne), and (sexy!) ringmaster Jack (Andy Garcia). Join Jennifer -- along with Holden, Tyler, Cilla, and little Matisse -- as they find adventure across America; you won't want to miss the special sweeps episode when Jennifer and Cilla perform their trapeze act at the Hoover Dam!

Gail Bait, starring Alicia Silverstone, Wednesdays at 9 on ABC

Just because you're a girl who works in her dad's bait shop doesn't mean you can't still dream big dreams -- and get big laughs! Gail Moyer (Alicia Silverstone) lives on Cape Cod with her father, Salty (Craig T. Nelson). She spends her days in the bait shop trading barbs and fish stories with regulars Skipper (Bill Paxton), Ahab (Drew Carey), and Steamer (Michael T. Weiss), and her nights feverishly writing in her journal in the hopes of one day landing a job at the Village Voice. Until a literary-minded fisherman finds his way into the bait shop and discovers her, though, she's stuck on the Cape fending off the advances of the old salts, and failing to see Kevin (James van der Beek) the boy who's loved her all her life, even though he's right in front of her face. Be sure to catch the very special sweeps episode, in which Joshua Jackson guest stars as a New York book editor with a taste for fresh quahog. Could this be Gail's big break? Don't let Gail Bait be the one that got away!
