Lochlyn Munro
Specialty: Jocks, Pranksters, and Fratboy Chuckleheads
It's ironic that Lochlyn Munro has such an interesting name, given that all his characters have names like Billy, Craig, Scott, and Dave. No last names, either. Apparently, you don't need a last name in films like Dracula 2000, Screwed, A Night at the Roxbury, Dead Man on Campus, or A Guy Thing. Just a first name. Just enough of a name for some other character to yell, "Dave, don't go in there!" or "Look who Scott's kissing!" or "Ted's totally jumped in the pool -- naked!" or "What happened to Craig -- Omigod! Nooo!"
Nevertheless, Lochlyn Munro is close to our hearts. Not because we're particular fans of the teen-movie genre, in which he specializes. But because Lochlyn is a good Canadian boy. Back in his younger years, he was well-known as the tough-but-tender heartthrob on Northwood, a Canadian high-school drama. (We have a lot of those up here, the most famous of which is Degrassi High.)
We remember sitting in the theatre during the trailer for Dead Man on Campus, and while everyone else was thinking, "Holy smoking carcass, that movie looks bad," we were thinking, "Look, it's that tough-but-tender heartthrob from Northwood! He's made good in Hollywood!"
And made good he has. Well, good enough to consistently land roles in teen films and TV movies such as Abduction of Innocence or the best-titled movie ever, Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?. In that movie, he even got a last name: "Kevin Shane." Although that's really just two fratty first names strung together.
Mr. Munro also bears a passing resemblance to Gary Busey -- so much so that we considered doing a 2 Stars, 1 Slot between him and Jake Busey, if only because it would be funny to see Jake get beat out -- and he's Gary's son.
But Lochlyn (that name is like music, isn't it?) is really a classic Hey! It's That Guy!. If you're from Canada, he's a Hey! It's That Guy! from Northwood. With his thick neck and cherubic face, he makes the perfect jock-slash-obnoxious fratboy, which means there will always be a place for him in the background of some teen comedy as Kevin or Scott or Craig. Ask for him by name!
